Soar

During our school’s spirit week this winter, one lucky student won a football signed by a Green Bay Packers football player. That player, however, didn’t just sign the football. Our church member asked the player to also write his favorite Bible verse on the football. Know what verse he chose? “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:31).

What perfect words for a football player, for a grade school student, actually for every Christian on earth! Our God is the one who gives us strength for every situation in life. That promise is especially applicable considering what the previous verse says: “Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall” (Isaiah 40:30). Have you figured this out yet? Every time we look to ourselves, we end up disappointed. Every time we hope in our strength, our sins slap us in the face.

Here’s how you soar: You put your hope in the Lord. The forgiveness found in Jesus’ death on the cross frees our hearts from sin and guilt. God’s promises of his love and protection free our minds from worry and fear. The Bible’s promise of eternal life for those who believe in Jesus lets us soar over the sorrow and sadness of death. If you had to list your favorite Bible passage, which would you choose? This is a great choice: “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:31). With Jesus, we soar.
