A God Who Hides Himself

We live in a “show me” world. We love things that look big and grand. Just think of the phrases we use: “Go big or go home.” “The bigger the better.” This is nothing new. People in Jesus day constantly demanded miracles—more and more miracles. “Go big or go home!”

That’s why so many people miss out on God. We look in the wrong places! The Bible puts it like this: “Truly you are a God who has been hiding himself, the God and Savior of Israel” (Isaiah 45:15). Looking for God? Don’t look for the “big.” You find God in his Word, where we see Jesus lying in a manger and dying on a cross. You find God in the water of baptism and in the bread and wine in the Lord’s Supper—simple things that God uses to give us his forgiveness. Let others go big. You go to God and find your Savior where he wants to be found—in his Word!
