It must be hard to be a woman. I don’t have personal experience, but I can see the impossible expectations we place on women in our world. You better be beautiful. You better be fit. You better work. No, actually you better be a leader in your work. And you better have perfect kids. You better have a clean house. You better be bold and strong and independent. You better not rely on anyone else… It must be hard to be a woman. How can women not feel crushed? Worthless? Like a failure?
God says something totally different: “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised” (Proverbs 31:30). How does that sound? In the midst of the insurmountable expectations of our world, I hope Christian women find great peace in what God says: You are special because of Jesus! Your outward beauty doesn’t define you. Your position doesn’t determine your worth. When the world’s expectations start to strangle you, run to Jesus and his Word and remember what God values: A heart that trusts in the LORD. That’s a woman to be praised!
