Advent is a time of waiting. Of watching. Of preparing. For Jesus’ coming at Christmas. For Jesus’ coming again on the Last Day. Are you good at waiting? Are you patient? Are you content to wait for God’s timing? For God’s plan? Too often, I’m not. I want it to happen now. I want to see God’s plan now. Do you?
As God’s people in the Old Testament waited for God’s deliverance, they prayed a short, beautiful prayer. Here it is: “LORD, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress” (Isaiah 33:2). Isn’t that a beautiful prayer for this season of Advent? Actually, isn’t that a beautiful prayer for each and every day of our lives? In the waiting, in the longing, learn to pray, “LORD, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress.”
