I recently visited Las Vegas for the first time. Have you been there? It’s pretty cool. I was passing through on a road trip, so I only had an hour to walk around the strip. That was plenty of time to see extravagant hotels. Tall skyscrapers. Huge TV screens. Bright lights. Fountains. Lots of people…
The next day, I hiked in Zion National Park in Utah. It was the opposite. No buildings. No lights. No screens. Hardly any people. Know what I realized? God’s creation is way more awesome than our creations. What God does is so much greater than even the greatest things we humans accomplish. Vegas lights have nothing on God’s mountains.
Do you stand in awe at God’s wonders? King David did: “You answer us with awesome and righteous deeds, God our Savior, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas, who formed the mountains by your power…. The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders” (Psalm 65:5-8).
We get so excited about what we build, but what God built is way better. We are so proud of what we accomplish, but what God has done is so much greater. And to think: That God came to save us. That God died on a cross for you and for me.
Find some time today to put away all the screens. Take your eyes off of what we humans do. Stand in awe at God’s wonders.
