Being with Jesus

Being with Jesus comes before doing things for Jesus. Too often I get those switched around. I bet you do too. We try to do and do and do, but we end up exhausted and empty. Because being with Jesus comes before doing things for Jesus. The strength to live and love and serve doesn’t come from our doing. I’m not my savior—or anybody else’s. Strength comes from being with Jesus and his Word.

That’s how it worked for Jesus’ disciples: “When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus” (Acts 4:13). Wouldn’t it be great if when people see us they take note that we have been with Jesus? Want strength? Need hope? Looking for encouragement? Before you do and do and do today, open your Bible. Spend time being with Jesus.
