Comforted to Comfort

What is God doing right now? Have you been asking that? Why so much trouble? Why so much heartache? God’s thoughts are not our thoughts, and God’s plans are so much bigger than what we can understand. But God’s Word provides some answers. God used troubles to teach the apostle Paul two powerful truths. Here’s one: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any troubled with the comfort we ourselves have received from God” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

Why so much trouble? Maybe God is teaching us how to comfort others. The best comforters are those who have been comforted themselves. As we face troubles in our lives, we learn of God’s compassion. We learn to run to our Lord Jesus Christ daily for love and forgiveness—and comfort! Have you had to run to Jesus a lot lately? Good! God “comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” The more trouble we face, the more we’re comforted by Jesus, the more we’re equipped to comfort others. You’re comforted to comfort!
