Lots of attention has been focused on the courage of health care workers lately—and rightfully so! Did you know that God also praises those who watch out for the weak? King David wrote, “Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the Lord delivers them in times of trouble. The Lord protects and preserves them—they are counted among the blessed in the land—he does not give them over to the desire of their foes. The Lord sustains them on their sickbed and restores them from their bed of illness” (Psalm 41:1-3). From the king who cares for the weakest of his people to a nurse who cares for the sickest patient in the hospital, blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the Lord delivers them!
Isn’t that a beautiful promise from God? Every king has a King. Every doctor has a Doctor. Every nurse has a Nurse. It’s Jesus Christ our Savior, who gave his own life to save us. That same Jesus promises that whatever we do for the least of his people, we do for him. We thank God for those who are caring for the weak and the sick, and we pray that their courage inspire all of us to show Christian love to everyone in our lives, especially to the weak. Because blessed are those who have regard for the weak!
