Feet Like a Deer

Have you ever seen a deer run? It’s a beautiful sight! They are so graceful as they bounce and prance lightly over the ground. It looks like they don’t weigh anything at all as they glide through the air.

Is that what you feel like today? Prancing around effortlessly like a deer? Not me. Ever notice the impact our hearts have on our feet? The unseen burdens of life show themselves in how we physically walk. Guilt feels like real weights on our legs. Fear literally freezes us and keeps us from moving. Laziness and apathy are like ropes tying us down. Run like a deer? Maybe more like a giant tortoise…

What do we need? The Lord! “The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights” (Habakkuk 3:19). Have you ever noticed how God’s Word lifts you up—both emotionally and physically? There’s nothing more freeing than hearing Jesus’ forgiveness. There is nothing more calming than soaking up God’s strength. There is nothing more motivating than God himself sending you out with his blessing to do his work. Instead of slogging through your day today, I pray that God give you feet like a deer. With his strength, may he take you to the heights!
