Are you getting excited for the Olympics? Our family is! One week from today, all the events and contests and races will start. Two full weeks of athletes racing to the finish.
Just don’t forget that the most important race is already going on. In fact, you’re right in the middle of it. Here’s how Paul described it: “I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace” (Acts 20:14). Paul considered himself in the middle of a race: Life! The finish line was heaven with Jesus, and his task was to share the good news of God’s grace with as many people as possible.
As excited as you get about the Olympics, I hope you get even more excited about the race God has given to you as a Christian. There’s so much more at stake than a gold medal or cheering fans. We’re talking about eternity! The glories of heaven are waiting, not because we’re going to earn them, but because Jesus has already won them for us with his victory on the cross. As we run our race, let’s share the good news of God’s grace with as many people as possible until by God’s grace we finish the race.
