Forget Not

I forget. Lots of things. How about you? Names. Directions. Birthdays. Appointments. Here’s the worst one: I forget God’s blessings. I get so caught up in what you’ve done wrong or I’ve done wrong or life’s done wrong that I forget all that Jesus has done perfectly right for me. It must have been easy for King David to forget God’s blessings too. Because he preached to his soul: “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits” (Psalm 103:2). I have no trouble remembering disappointments. I forget the blessings.

So King David provided his soul with quite a list: “Who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s” (Psalm 103:3-5). Isn’t that what’s really worth remembering? “Oh my soul, go ahead and forget your discouragement and disappointment. Forgive and forget the sins committed against you. But forget not God’s benefits!” Then praise the Lord!
