Happy Fourth of July! It is a blessing to be free. Today—and everyday—I’m thankful for the wonderful freedoms we enjoy in the United States. The freedom to worship God publically. The freedom to share devotions like this one through the internet. The freedom to have Christian schools and Christian churches without having to hide our beliefs. It’s a blessing to be free! May God bless the U.S.A.
But I’m also thankful that real freedom doesn’t depend on this country. It depends on Jesus. Jesus boldly declared, “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed!” (John 8:36). There are freedoms that even America doesn’t offer. The freedom of forgiveness through Jesus’ blood on the cross. The freedom of grace that God’s love for me doesn’t depend on anything that I do. The freedom from the fear of death because of the eternal life that’s found in Jesus. It’s a blessing to be free! No matter what happens in this country, or in any other country, no one can touch the freedom that’s ours through Jesus. “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed!” May God bless you as you celebrate your freedom!
