It’s all brown. At least where I live. The wind has blown the last leaves off the trees. The flowers are long gone. So it’s brown. Empty. Just waiting for snow to come. Know what? That’s like us. “The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more” (Psalm 103:15-16). We’re like grass and flowers. Here for a moment, then gone.
We need something more. Something that lasts. So listen to what comes next: “But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children” (Psalm 103:17). Everlasting love. Doesn’t that sound nice? God’s love for you never changes. In fact, it won’t change after your lifetime either. As God’s everlasting love has been with believers in Jesus for thousands of years, it will continue for you and your children and your children’s children. When you see the dead and dying and temporary around you, trust in the one thing that lasts: God’s everlasting love.
