What hurts today? I bet some part of your body does. If that body part feels better in a few days or weeks, something else will start hurting. Isn’t that the way it goes? What hurts today?
I’ve noticed a popular meme being shared on social media lately. It says something like, “In twenty years, you’ll look back and wish you had the body you have today.” There’s a lot of truth in that. It’s good for us to appreciate God’s blessings to us today! Yet, that isn’t a very comforting message, is it? “Whatever pains you feel today, it will be a whole lot worse in twenty years!”
Jesus gives you something so much better. Here’s the Bible’s promise: “The Lord Jesus Christ, by the power that enables him to bring all things under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body” (Philippians 3:21). Jesus doesn’t say, “Try to enjoy life now, because in twenty years you’ll feel a whole lot worse.” Instead, Jesus promises, “One day, your lowly body will be transformed into a glorious body.” Doesn’t that sound good? From lowly to glory.
Whatever hurts today, remember: “One day, all the pain will be gone.” Whatever isn’t working right today, remember: “One day, it’s going to be perfect.” Whatever looks and feels lowly will one day be transformed into glory. That’s Jesus’ promise! Every pain leads us to yearn that much more for heaven.
