Do you want God to remember you? That kind of depends, doesn’t it? It depends on what God remembers about you. I certainly want God to think of me, but I actually hope he doesn’t remember a lot of the things I think and say and do. In fact, I hope most of what I’ve said and done isn’t remembered at all! Do you want God to remember you?
Here’s how King David put it in the Bible: “Remember, O Lord, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old. Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you are good, O Lord” (Psalm 25:6-7). What a great prayer! “God, please remember me, but when you do, remember you—your love, your grace, your forgiveness. Remember your promise to show goodness to me, even though I don’t deserve it at all. God, remember you!”
Here’s what’s amazing: God answers that prayer every single day in your life. When God thinks of you, he doesn’t remember the adultery that you committed or the day you got drunk or those hateful words that came out of your mouth. God has forgiven those sins, never to think of them again. Instead, God looks at you and sees his beloved child, bought with the blood of Christ. He looks at you and remembers his great mercy and love for you, which led him to make you and save you. So here’s our daily prayer: “God, remember you!”
