God’s Plans

How are your plans working out? I know you have plans. We all have plans—lots of plans! Plans for our relationships. Plans for our jobs. Plans for our finances. Plans for our future. How are your plans working out? My life doesn’t seem to ever go according to my plans. Does yours? How does that make you feel? Frustrated? Disappointed? Angry? Afraid? It’s hard when your plans don’t work out.

But God’s plans always do. Here’s a wise reminder from the book of Proverbs: “To humans belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue” (Proverbs 16:1). We humans keep on planning, but God’s the one who gives the final answers, and his answers are always better than our initial plans. Proverbs adds, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps” (Proverbs 16:9). Whenever we’re tempted to doubt God’s plans, remember his greatest plan: He planned to send his Son Jesus to save us. God’s plan of salvation went exactly according to plan. That’s why it’s okay when my plans don’t work out. God’s plans are so much better than ours! May God give us faith to trust in his plans.
