It was a bad time for the Israelites. Their country was conquered. Jerusalem was destroyed. Solomon’s temple was burned to the ground. Almost everyone was dead or captured. And here was the most crushing part: They knew exactly why. They had sinned. They had gone their own way. They had refused to head God’s warnings. They had turned away from God. What hope did they have? Can you relate?
Here was Jeremiah’s hope: “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him’” (Lamentations 3:22-24). Even in the midst of sins, God’s faithfulness is great. Even when we are crushed, God’s compassions never fail. They are new every morning. You can say with Jeremiah, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him!”
Great is Thy faithfulness Great is Thy faithfulness Morning by morning new mercies I see And all I have needed Thy hand hath provided Great is Thy faithfulness Lord unto me.
