Help Wanted!

“Help wanted.” We see that sign all over the place, at least in the city where I live. My sixth grader recently asked, “Why does every single restaurant need workers?” It’s not just restaurants. It seems like just about every company, every school, every agency needs workers. Help wanted!

Did you know that God has his “help wanted” sign up? God is looking for more workers too! God could just zap people with faith in Jesus, but he doesn’t work that way. He creates faith in people’s hearts through hearing God’s Word and being baptized. How do we hear the Word? When other people share it with us. Listen to what Jesus says, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field” (Matthew 9:37-38).

The workers in God’s kingdom are few! Just about every Christian denomination needs more men to train to be pastors. Just about every Christian school system needs more men and women to train to be Christian teachers. Could you consider that? Is there someone you could encourage to think about full-time ministry in God’s church? God wants more people sharing his Word.

Because there is such a need, isn’t there? A need for God’s forgiveness. A need for encouragement from Jesus’ love and promises. A need for God’s Word to change hearts and lives. God’s help wanted sign is up! Let’s pray for more workers in God’s harvest field.
