Hope in a New Year

Today is one of my least favorite days of the year. The Monday after New Year’s is always hard, isn’t it? Everything is over. Christmas is over. New Year’s is over. Everybody is back to work and school and life. What’s there to look forward to now? Just cold and snow and taking down Christmas decorations…

Need some hope for the new year? Read these words from Micah, “But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me” (Micah 7:7). If our hope was in Christmas celebrations or New Year’s parties, they are over. But God isn’t. Jesus is our Savior just as much on January 4th as on December 25th. Our holidays are over, but our God hasn’t changed. Let’s try watching in hope for the Lord and waiting for God and his plans for us. I know that’s hard, but God gives us an invitation: We can pray to him and he will hear us. There’s hope in a new year—hope in God our Savior!
