How long? Have you been wondering that lately? That’s one of the most common questions on our minds. “How long will I have to suffer? How long will things keep going wrong? How long will the wrong people be successful? How long will the pain last? How long will __________?” How long?
You’re not the first believer in God to wrestle with that haunting question. 3,000 years ago, King David prayed to God, “How long, LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart?” (Psalm 13:1-2).
Sound familiar? “How long will you hide your face?… How long will I wrestle with my thoughts?…”
Then I hope what David writes next also sounds familiar: “I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation” (Psalm 13:5). God doesn’t tell us how long. But he tells us that he loves us. He loves us with an unfailing love that he proved when he sent Jesus to die on the cross for us. He promises salvation—salvation through faith in Jesus as our Savior. He invites us to trust in him.
God doesn’t tell us how long, but he tells us we can trust in him. When your heart cries out, “How long?”, remember, “I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.”
