In the Beginning God Created…

Do you know how many words you have to go into the Bible before people reject its message? Five. Just five words of the Bible are too much for many people today. The Bible starts, “In the beginning God created…” (Genesis 1:1).

“Wait a minute! Stop right there. God created? Come on… We know that’s not true! The universe evolved on its own over billions of years. No ‘god’ had anything to do with it. Do you really still believe all that old-fashioned stuff?” It just takes five words of the Bible before people reject its message.

Yet, rejecting those first five words of Genesis has devastating consequences. When you deny that God created the world, here’s what you’re left with: “There is no god. You’re an accident. Your life doesn’t have any purpose. Neither do the lives of the people around you. You’re just an animal. When you die, you’re dead.” Is it any surprise that we feel worthless, helpless, hopeless?

The Bible tells a different story, starting with its first five words. “In the beginning God created…” Do you realize what that means? You are not an accident. You are the creation of God! He loves you dearly. God has a perfect plan for you and everyone around you. In fact, he’s even forgiven your sins and given you eternal life in heaven through Jesus your Savior.

There is hope. There is purpose. There is peace. Because of these five words, “In the beginning God created.”
