You have more today than you did on the day you were born. Have you ever thought about that? No matter how your life is going, you have more today than you did on the day you were born. I got to watch a baby being born a couple months ago. She came into the world naked and helpless. She brought nothing with her. She had no power to do anything for herself. You have more today than you did on the day you were born.
That’s what Job remembered on the worst day of his life. If you know Job’s story in the Bible, he lost everything on a single day. On one day, he lost all his possessions, and his ten children all died. What would you have said? Here’s what Job said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised” (Job 1:21).
Even on the worst day of his life, Job realized something. Everything in his life—absolutely everything—was a gift of God. He was born naked. He would die naked. Everything in between was all grace. Every possession. Every child. Every healthy day. Every moment of joy. It’s all grace. It’s all by God’s grace.
That’s what enabled Job to praise the LORD even in a moment of great loss. Everything in his life was a gift from God. If God decided to taken away the gifts that God had graciously given, how could Job complain? It was all grace.
Remember this: You have more today than you did on the day you were born. You have more today than you will have on the day that you die. In between, it’s all grace. On the days when you see God’s blessings, remember that it’s all grace. On the days when you feel great loss, remember that it’s all grace. “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised.”
