I’m anxious, almost all the time. Are you? Anxious about the future. Anxious about the next hour. Anxious for my family. Anxious about messing up. Anxious about… You can fill in the blank. Does your life often feel like the picture: Cloudy? Dark? Uncertain? Anxiety weighs on our hearts and lives.
So the Bible offers this promise: “When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy” (Psalm 94:19). There is consolation, there is joy, for the anxious! Notice that the Bible doesn’t promise that God will take all the anxiety away. But in the midst of our anxiety, God’s consolation brings us joy.
Consolation that every moment of our lives was written in God’s book before one of them came to be. Consolation that Jesus has hurled every one of our sins into the depths of the sea. Consolation that the angels of God surround those who believe in Jesus. Consolation that salvation doesn’t depend on me, it depends completely on Jesus. Joy that in heaven, every last bit of anxiety will be swept away. Joy that Jesus Christ walks with you and me every second of every day. There is joy for the anxious in Jesus!
