Have you ever stood on a rocky shoreline and watched the waves crash against the rocks? Maybe that’s where you’d like to be right now! There’s something awesome, breathtaking about the power of the waves. Sure, from a distance, the waves out in the ocean don’t look like much. But then they come near the shore, thunder against the rocks, and send spray shooting up into the air. Waves are mighty.
But not as mighty as God. “Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea—the LORD on high is mighty” (Psalm 93:4). Sure, maybe from a distance God doesn’t seem that great or special. But when you see God up close in his Word? The law of God thunders against the pride and selfishness and sin in our hearts. Who can stand? But then the grace of God overwhelms us with the message that the same God who made the seas came and died for you and me. He is with you. He is for you. He loves you. No matter what waves are pounding against you today, God is mightier than the waves!
