Money Can’t Save

There is a warning that’s repeated over and over in the Bible. It must be important! It’s this: “Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of the LORD’s wrath” (Zephaniah 1:18). Money can’t save! Why is that repeated all over the Bible? Because too often we think it does. Too often we think money saves. “Once I get enough in my retirement account, I’ll be all set.” “If I could just land that job, I’d be set for life.” “If I could just have _____, then I’d be happy.” Watch out! Money can’t save.

But there is someone who can: Jesus. Jesus gives you treasures that never will wear out or run out: Forgiveness, grace, purpose, eternal life. Jesus saved us, not by giving us stuff, but by giving us himself when he died for us on the cross. Jesus’ salvation is better than anything money can buy. An old football coach once gave this advice: “If you want to be happy for a day, eat a steak. If you want to be happy for a week, go on a cruise. If you want to be happy forever, believe in Jesus Christ.” Treasure Jesus. Seek Jesus. Find your rest in Jesus. Money can’t save, but Jesus can and did!
