Moving Heaven

You might not be able to move earth, but you can move heaven. Did you know that? The first part is obvious. Life teaches us over and over again that we’re not in control. What we want to happen usually doesn’t happen. No matter how strong or smart you think you are, you’re not able to move earth.

But you can move heaven. Really? How? If we can’t control life on earth, how could we possibly influence heaven? Only because Jesus gives us a promise: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7). Know what Jesus is talking about? Prayer. He’s encouraging Christians to pray. To boldly ask God our Father in heaven for whatever is on our hearts and minds.

We shouldn’t be able to do that. You and I can talk to God? That should be impossible! God should want nothing to do with us. We’re sinners. He’s perfect! We’re weak. He’s strong! But this is what Jesus came to do: Reconcile us to God. By faith in Jesus, you’re the child of God.

So, while you might not be able to move earth, you can move heaven. When it feels like you’re running into a wall, pray. When you have no idea what to do, pray. When nothing is going according to plan, pray. When you feel powerless, pray and trust that your loving Father knows exactly what you need.

That’s Jesus’ promise! “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” You might not be able to move earth, but you can move heaven.
