Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!
When the coronavirus cancellations started to mount three weeks ago, I can remember the greatest fear on many of our minds: “There won’t be any Easter!” What a foolish thought! All you need for Easter is a REDEEMER who LIVES. Do you still have that? Absolutely! Listen to how Job put it so many years ago in the Bible: “I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes—I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!” (Job 19:25-27).
This strange year is exactly what we needed to be powerfully reminded that our joy can’t come from packed churches or beautiful choirs or Easter outfits. Remember where Job was when he said those words? His ten children had all just died on the same day, he had just lost all of his possessions, his body was ravaged by painful sores, and his wife had told him to give up, curse God, and die. What did he have left? Everything he needed: His REDEEMER LIVES!
It doesn’t matter who’s at church. Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! You don’t need trumpets and banners. Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! It’s okay if you’re the only one at your house. Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Even if your health is failing, Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Easter happened. The victory is won! Even the gates of hell—or the coronavirus—can’t change the fact that our sins are forgiven and eternal life is ours. Oh the sweet joy this sentence gives, I know that my REDEEMER LIVES!
All you need for Easter is a REDEEMER who LIVES. That’s exactly what you have! Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!
