Never Graduate!

It’s graduation time! All over the country, kids and young adults of all ages are rejoicing to put down their math books, biology books—insert your least favorite class here—and never have to open them up again. Some forever! Others… at least for the next three months. If you’ve plowed through the rigor of high school or college, it feels great to put down the books and be done!

Hopefully, we haven’t done that with God’s Word. The temptation is real: To think we’ve learned enough already. To think that the Bible is really best for kids. To think that we know it all. We’ve graduated, right? Where’s your Bible right now? Gathering dust? Hidden on the shelf? “We can put that book away…” That’s what the devil loves to hear!

A believer in God long ago had a completely different attitude. He wrote, “I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word” (Psalm 119:16). I will not neglect your word! May we never graduate from God’s Word! I don’t know about you, but the older I get, I don’t need God less. I realize my need for God even more. For comfort and forgiveness. For guidance and correction. For grace and truth. It’s okay if you never pick up a Chemistry textbook again, but I hope your Bible is well-worn. Never graduate from God’s Word!

What are ways you’ve found to keep in God’s Word often?
