Not No One

Sometimes it seems like there’s no one. Do you know what I’m talking about? No one who listens. No one who cares. No one who’s there. No one who understands. That’s a terrible feeling, isn’t it? There’s nothing worse than no one.

You’re not the only one who’s felt that way. King David did in the Bible. Before he became king of Israel, there was a time when David had to hide in a cave as an army sought to kill him. In that dark cave, here’s what he wrote: “Look and see, there is no one at my right hand; no one is concerned for me. I have no refuge; no one cares for my life” (Psalm 142:4). No one concerned… No one cares… No one…

But in the middle of his fears and doubts and sins, David realized something. Even though no one else was there, he wasn’t alone. He wrote, “When my spirit grows faint within me, it is you who watch over my way” (Psalm 142:3). As bad as it seemed, there was not no one. There was God! God was watching over David’s life every step of the way. So here was David’s prayer: “I cry to you, LORD; I say, ‘You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living’” (Psalm 142:5).

When you’re all alone, cry out to Jesus our Savior and know that there’s not no one with you. There’s always Jesus. He is our refuge. Always!
