Nothing But The Cross

It’s time to move on, right? We can finally stop talking about Jesus dying on the cross. Holy Week is over. Easter is over. It’s time to shift our focus to other things, right? This is what we do in life. We focus on something for a time. We care about certain things for a while. Then we move on or change our minds or focus on something else. We’ve heard enough about Jesus and his cross for a while, haven’t we?

No! At least, not according to Paul. He wrote, “For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified” (1 Corinthians 2:2). The message of Jesus’ death on the cross isn’t just for Holy Week. It’s not something to think about a few times a year. Jesus’ cross is the foundation of our faith and life as Christians. Holy Week is over, but it’s not time to move on from the cross! Let’s take our sins to Jesus’ cross every day and rejoice that Jesus died to forgive us. Let’s marvel every day at God’s love that led him to die for us. May Paul’s attitude be ours too: “I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.” It’s all about Jesus and his cross, today and always.
