Believers in God pray for their country. In fact, God’s people in the Bible would tell us not to take our country for granted. They lost theirs. Because of their sin and rebellion against God, their country was captured. They were taken as captives to Babylon. Yet, here’s what God commanded them: “Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper” (Jeremiah 29:7). Believers in God pray for their country.
If exiles in a foreign country were to pray for the country in which they lived, how much more reason do we have to pray for this country that is our own! Peace and prosperity don’t come from our strength or intelligence. They are gifts of God’s grace. Wealth and power aren’t the result of hard work. They are gifts of God’s grace. Good leaders and fair laws aren’t the result of luck. They are gifts of God’s grace. So, as God’s people did so long ago, let’s pray for the peace and prosperity of the place God has called us to live. Take a few minutes today and pray for your country. May God bless the U.S.A.!
