Are you ready? My boys and I weren’t. We were sitting on our beds at a hotel, watching sports highlights, when suddenly the fire alarm went off. Has that ever happened to you at a hotel? I’m ashamed to admit it, but we panicked. The boys were yelling. I didn’t know what to do. Do I grab my keys? My clothes? Do we go outside? Do we just wait for the alarm to stop? We weren’t ready!
Thankfully, the cause of all that chaos was burnt toast in the breakfast room. But that experience stuck with me. We weren’t ready, and it was terrifying, at least for a second.
Are you ready? Not just for a fire alarm. How about for the biggest event in the future of the world: Jesus’ return? He’s coming back. He’s going to judge the world. There are only two final destinations: Heaven or hell. That’s a big deal, isn’t it? That’s why Jesus says, “You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him” (Matthew 24:44). Are you ready?
Thankfully, Jesus tells us exactly how to be ready for his return: Repent and believe in him! The way to heaven is faith in Jesus our Savior. So don’t put Jesus off. Today is the day to hear God’s Word. Today is the day to confess your sins. Today is the day to believe in Jesus. Today is the day to be ready.
