A terrible thing happened in Israel, worse than any plague or war or famine: “Israel has forgotten their Maker” (Hosea 8:14). The people of Israel forgot who made them. They forgot about God! Isn’t that awful? Isn’t that exactly what’s happening in our country? We are forgetting our Maker. We now think that the world just came about on its own. Even worse, we boast about our understanding of the world and pretend we have control over our lives. Forget the One who created us? How foolish. How sinful!
That’s why wise, old Solomon gave this advice: “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth” (Ecclesiastes 12:1). Remember your Creator! The world didn’t just come about on its own. That’s impossible. God created it! You aren’t an accident or the result of the evolutionary process. You are God’s special creation! You aren’t in control of your life, but God is, and the same God who created you died for you and forgave you and has prepared a home in heaven for you. So remember your Creator!
