Sow Your Seed

Do you ever feel like you don’t know what you’re doing? I do! Like every day, you’re faced with so many decisions, and you have no idea which is really best? I do! How often do you crave a guidebook that tells you exactly what to do in each situation: Exactly what to spend your time on… Exactly what career path to follow… Exactly which people to pour your heart into… Guess what? There isn’t one. God in his wisdom doesn’t tell us what the future holds. He doesn’t whisper in our ears which decision to make.

Instead, God encourages us to pray to him for guidance. To trust in his control. And to go out and live for him. Here’s Solomon’s advice: “Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let not your hands be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well” (Ecclesiastes 11:6). Isn’t that great advice? Don’t let indecision paralyze you. Don’t let uncertainly keep you from doing anything. Sow your seed in the morning. Keep busy in the evening. Use your God-given gifts and talents in every way you can think of, because you don’t know what God will ultimately bless.

It’s true we might make the wrong decision sometimes. It’s true we might end-up having to change our course. But that’s why it’s great to have God’s forgiveness. It’s empowering to have confidence in Christ. Life doesn’t rest on our decisions, it rests on our Savior Jesus. That frees us. So, “sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let not your hands be idle, for you do not know which will succeed!”
