Swept Away Like the Mist

Writer: Pastor Nathan NassPastor Nathan Nass

Morning mist doesn’t last long. If you’re up early enough, you might catch a glimpse of mist hanging quietly in the morning air. But as soon as the sun comes up, it’s forgotten in another sunny summer day.

Just like our sins. God says, “I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you” (Isaiah 44:22). Just like the morning mist gets swept away, just like the sun chases away the clouds, God has swept your sins away.

Isn’t that amazing? Our sins often feel like a cloud that hangs over us and darkens everything we do. Our sins feel like mist that covers our lives. It feels like we can never get away from the regret and the guilt. It feels like our sins are going to obscure every day for the rest of our lives.

But they don’t have to. Jesus “redeemed” us. When Jesus died on the cross, he paid the price for every one of our sins. He took all our offenses and guilt on himself and took them all away once and for all.

You don’t have to live with guilt. You don’t have to be plagued by your sins. Take them to Jesus. Return to him again and again and lay your sins at Jesus’ cross. Then trust his promise: “I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist.”
