Tested and Approved

As you buy Christmas presents this month, I bet there is an assumption you have about each toy or gadget you purchase: It works! How many products even go so far as to say that on the package? Tested and approved! Product testing is a big business these days, and for good reason. Whether it’s a car seat or laptop or even basic food from the grocery store, we expect it to be tested and approved. It better work! Do you know what’s been tested and approved more than anything else in our world? God’s promises. A faithful believer in the Old Testament recognized that. He wrote, “Your promises have been thoroughly tested, and your servant loves them” (Psalm 119:140). The fact that God keeps his promises is one of the surest truths of life! Check out these Christmas promises that have been thoroughly tested and came true in Jesus: “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14). “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times” (Micah 5:2). “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). Born of a virgin? Check! Born in Bethlehem? Check! The Prince of Peace? Check! God keeps his promises! “Your promises have been thoroughly tested, and your servant loves them!” If God has kept every promise so far, do you think he’ll keep his promise to love us, to forgive us, to guide our lives until we reach our home in heaven? Absolutely! No matter what you’re facing today, find comfort in the fact that every one of God’s promises is tested and approved. May God bless you and your family as you keep Christ in Christmas this week!
