The End of Tears

One day there will be no more tears. That sounds impossible, doesn’t it? Often there doesn’t seem to be any end to the tears. The frustrations. The broken hearts. Tears after tears after tears. A cancer diagnosis followed by an argument followed by a death in the family followed by an unexpected insult followed by a shocking accident followed by… No more tears? That sounds hard to believe.

But it’s true. It’s God’s promise to you and me and everyone who believes in Jesus. Listen: “He will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. The LORD has spoken” (Isaiah 25:8). One day, there will be the end of tears. One day, you will never cry again. One day, there will be no more broken hearts.

Because of Jesus. This is what Jesus accomplished for us! When he died on the cross for us, Jesus defeated death. In fact, death has been swallowed up forever. When Jesus rose from the dead, Jesus opened up eternal life in heaven to all who believe. If dead is swallowed up, if eternal life is waiting for us, know what that means? One day there will be no more tears.

The next time you cry, remind your hurting heart: “This won’t last forever. It can’t! These tears are temporary. In fact, Jesus himself will one day wipe them away. The end of tears is coming.”
