The Everlasting Arms

It seems like everything is falling apart, doesn’t it? When you look at the world… When you look at your own life… Who is holding all this together? Doesn’t it seem like everything is falling apart?

It’s not. It can’t. Oh sure, bad things can happen and will happen. But everything isn’t falling apart. It can’t. Know why? “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms” (Deuteronomy 33:27). The world isn’t held together by chance or luck or some unknown force. The world—and your life—are held together by the everlasting arms of God. He is our refuge!

Even in death. Those words from the Bible are some of the last words of Moses, the great prophet who led God’s people out of Egypt to the Promised Land. Even in death, Moses had confidence in the Lord. When human strength gives out, when there’s nothing left that you can do, it’s okay! Life doesn’t depend on your strength. “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.”

Jesus adds one more incredible detail to that picture. The arms that hold your life together have nail holes in them. Why? Because Jesus gave his life for you. To forgive all your sins. To win for you eternal life. The everlasting arms that hold the world together were once stretched out on the cross to save you. So no matter how life looks today, trust this: Underneath are the everlasting arms.
