The Good Shepherd

Who’s leading us? Who’s controlling our lives? Doesn’t it seem like chaos? Doesn’t the world look like a mess? We need a leader. A shepherd. We have one! Jesus says, “I am the good shepherd” (John 10:11). What a relief! When we feel lost, when we feel alone, when we go astray, Jesus is our Good Shepherd.

But Jesus does more than lead us. He does even more than control our lives. Listen: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep.” It doesn’t make sense. A Shepherd who lays down his life for his sheep? That’s exactly what Jesus did. He died to forgive our sins. He died to bring us back to God. Our Shepherd isn’t just our guide and our example. He’s our Savior! In the chaos and mess of our world, don’t forget that you have a Good Shepherd who laid down his life for you!
