“Safe and legal.” Those words jumped out at me in a news article yesterday. “Safe and legal.” Do you know what they were referring to? Abortion. President Biden promised that every woman in America should have access to “safe and legal abortions.” Does that phrase sound right to you? It shouldn’t. This isn’t about being a Democrat or a Republican, a man or a woman. It’s not even about laws or rights. There is a truth that is true no matter what the president or anyone else says: Abortion is not safe.
Because every single abortion ends with the death of a human being. It’s hard to imagine a clearer example of how cruelty and violence have taken hold of our country than to hear someone describe the killing of an unborn baby as “safe.” Abortion isn’t safe. It always brings death to a human being like you.
The Bible has a lot to say about God’s concern for even the smallest human beings. God wants each and every one of us to share that concern. He says, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves” (Proverbs 31:8). That unborn child, wanted or not, planned or not, is God’s creation. Loved by our heavenly Father. Forgiven by Jesus Christ through his death on the cross. That unborn child can’t speak for himself or herself. May God help us speak up for the lives of those who cannot speak for themselves.
