The LORD Has Spoken

There are so many messages, aren’t there? We’re bombarded with so many messages every single day. Facebook feed, news reports, billboards, podcasts, texts… Messages left and right. So many messages that so often conflict with each other. When should we be worried? How can we know what’s true?

In the Bible, Moses gave God’s people a simple way to test whether a message was from God. He said, “You may say to yourselves, ‘How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord?’If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him” (Deuteronomy 18:21-22). What was the test? If a message comes true, it’s from God. If it doesn’t come true, it’s not, and you don’t have to worry about it. Sound simple?

So put the Bible to the test. It prophesied Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem, his Palm Sunday ride on a donkey, his terrible death for our sins, and his resurrection. Did it come true? Yes! In his Word, Jesus prophesied what the world would be like today: Wars and rumors of war, natural disasters, pestilences… True? Yes! What’s more, the Bible promised strength for God’s people in every trial, forgiveness for every sin, and hope even in the darkest times of life. True? Yes! There are lots of messages. Want the real truth? Look in God’s Word. Every single message in it is true. The Lord has spoken!
