The Perfect King

There’s no perfect king or ruler. I bet you’ve figured that out. If you want proof, read about the kings of God’s people in the Bible. It’s sad. There was no perfect king. Kings turned away from God. Kings led God’s people into sin. Kings cared only about themselves. Even believing kings had huge moral failings and committed surprising sins against God and his Word. Over and over again. Our rulers are often a sad commentary on all of us. Our earthly kings and rulers are like each of us—sinful. There’s no perfect king.

Except for one—Jesus! Don’t ever forget who the real King is—Jesus. As Jesus reigns in heaven, “on his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS” (Revelation 19:16). What a comfort! When earthly rulers show us time and time again how imperfect we all are, remember that Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords. Here’s one more detail about King Jesus in heaven: He wears a robe stained in blood. Do you know why? The King of Kings and Lord of Lords laid down his life for you to forgive you and save you and make you his own. Isn’t that incredible? He’s the One ruling our lives and our world. Don’t let what you see around you fool you. We have the absolutely perfect King.
