The Sins of My Youth

I bet you’ve had a lot of time to think lately. More free time than usual! Have any bad memories from the past come up? Isn’t it amazing how out of the blue, things you haven’t thought about for years can pop into your mind and weigh down your heart. Especially the sins. What have you been thinking about?

King David knew that feeling—that awful feeling of guilt for past sins. He had past sins. The Bible describes some. Adultery. Moments of pride. I’m sure there were many more. Here was his prayer: “Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you are good, O Lord” (Psalm 25:7). “Remember not the sins of my youth…” We could each pray that!

But even before he prayed, David already knew the solution to those sins. Two verses earlier, he wrote, “you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long” (Psalm 25:5). You have a Savior! Every bad memory is a chance to remember what Jesus has done for you when he saved you on the cross. That means you’re loved. Saved. Forgiven. Even the worst things. Even the most embarrassing sins of your youth. Forgiven! Got time to think? Great. Think about this: “My hope is in you all day long!”
