Though… Yet…

Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior” (Habakkuk 3:17-18). Wow. That’s faith! Habakkuk trusted that though God allow suffering and loss in his life, he would still rejoice in his Savior God. That’s the quiet confidence God and his promises give Christians in the face of uncertainty and hardship. “Though… yet…”

May God give us that same confidence today! Though church buildings are empty and hospitals are full, though my job is uncertain and money is tight, though death lurks around the corner and I feel so alone, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. Amen! What “though…yet…” would you add? In the middle of suffering and loss this Holy Week, may God give us joyful confidence in Jesus our Savior!
