Martin Luther once said, “I have so much to do that I shall spend the first three hours in prayer.” He was so busy that he needed to spend lots of time with God. I’m afraid that’s the opposite of my life. The busier I get, the less time I spend with Jesus. It shows. Because the busier I get, the more anxious and stressed and angry I get too. Martin Luther was on to something: We’re too busy not to pray!
He learned that from Jesus. Jesus was incredibly busy. Crowds of people flocked to him to hear his messages and receive his healing. So do you know what Jesus often did? “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed” (Mark 1:35). God is our refuge and strength and hope and salvation. Jesus was too busy not to pray.
You are too. There is way too much going on today for you to handle on your own. There are way too many burdens on your heart today—sins, guilt, regret, fear, anxiety, depression—for you to carry on your own. But you don’t have to! You have a God and Savior ready to carry you today with his forgiveness and grace. May God bless you with peace and strength as you spend time with Jesus today.
