Did you get all dressed up for Christmas? Facebook is filled with family pictures of dresses and suits—and Christmas pajamas! It’s great to get dressed up for special occasions. Just don’t ever think that your beauty comes from your hair or your clothes, because God says something different about true beauty: “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight” (1 Peter 3:3-4).
We spend a lot of time trying to make ourselves look good on the outside. Jesus spent his time making us look good on the inside. No elaborate hairstyle can compare with the clean conscience Jesus gives you. No Christmas suit or dress can match God’s forgiveness in our hearts. No diamond ring can sparkle like a gentle and quiet spirit of faith in Jesus. Whether you’re all dressed up in your Christmas best or sitting in sweatpants on your couch, remember that true beauty is God’s gift to us in Jesus.
