All gave some. Some gave all. On Veterans’ Day, we give thanks to God for all the men and women who have sacrificed so much for us and for our freedoms in America. To you Veterans: Thank you for your service and sacrifice. We appreciate you! What you have done for us motivates us to serve and sacrifice for others. Even more, what you have done for us paints for us a powerful picture of Jesus.
Because there is one Man who gave all for all: Jesus. Like so many veterans who have humbled themselves, faced difficult situations for us, and even offered their lives for our freedoms, Jesus humbled himself and gave himself for all of us, when he died in our place for our sins on the cross.
Jesus’ service and sacrifice for us motivate our lives. Here’s what a Christian says, “The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20). There is someone who loves you so much that he gave himself for you. Isn’t that amazing? Jesus loves you that much! Your life doesn’t depend on how successful you are. It doesn’t depend on how much money you have. So don’t live for those things. Your life depends on Jesus, who loved you and gave himself for you.
That includes you, Veterans. As much as you have served us, there is Someone who serves you. You are not alone. You are loved by Jesus himself! Your life isn’t worthless. Your life was worth the death of Jesus for you! While your service in the military might be over, you still have something to live for: Jesus, who loved you and gave himself for you. Jesus understands your pain. Jesus understands your hurt. He is there for you. Today. Tomorrow. Forever. You are not alone. You are loved by Jesus.
All gave some. Some gave all. One gave all for all. Thank you, Veterans! Just as you have painted for us a picture of Jesus’ love, we pray that Jesus’ love for you give you comfort and peace as you live for him.
