My 4-year-old son is at the age when he loves to have his parents watch him do things—everything! Recently, he climbed up the slide all by himself. When he made it to the top, he proudly turned to my wife and I and said, “Did you see that?” We said, “Yes, we saw you!” Then he said, “How come you don’t have a happy face? You need to make your happy face!” That touched our hearts. Of course we wanted to show our son our “happy” faces! But it’s not always easy to go through life with a happy face.
Moses knew the secret. 3,500 years ago, he made this request part of his prayer to God, “Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days” (Psalm 90:14). Where did his “happy face” come from? God’s unfailing love! God loves you with that same unfailing love. Jesus proved it when he died for you on cross and rose again to give you real life. No matter what tries to rob your joy, God’s unfailing love is there to give you joy despite the challenges you face. A fellow pastor shared a great recommendation with me recently. Make Moses’ prayer the first words on your mind when you get up every day: “Satisfy me in the morning with your unfailing love, that I may sing for joy and be glad all my days.” May God give you joy to make your happy face today!
